Medical Adhesive
When it comes to medicine and its applications we can also talk about the medical adhesive. In this category of medical adhesives, the most common are the dental adhesives. Also, adhesives can be used for bonding medical devices. Usually the medical devices need to be light and easy to work with, and for this reason, medical devices manufacturers use more and more adhesives.
The demand for medical adhesives has grown a lot lately. Surgical and consumer settings use these materials. Among the most common medical adhesives we can find polyethylene glycol, cyanoacrylate and other plasma and protein types of adhesives. Also, acrylic, silicone, collagen, albumin or fibrin adhesives are used for medical purposes. The applications are also numerous. Medical adhesives are used for denture bonding, as orthodontic bonding agents, restorative adhesives or as pit and fissure sealants. These adhesives can also be used for primary care and by every consumer.
Some of the medical adhesives are specially designed to attach different prostheses to our skin. This is absolutely safe because the medical adhesive will produce absolutely no irritation or skin allergies. This is a special adhesive that is attached on the penile prosthesis. This medical adhesive is so strong that it will keep the prosthesis on, even while the patient is swimming or exercising. But this is just an example. In medicine we can find some adhesives that are composed of gelatinous materials that can behave like a solid one. The adhesives can also take the pain away.
As I have mentioned above, in medicine, there are some medical adhesives that are only used for bonding medical devices. Medical devices are nowadays more sophisticated, and therefore they are harder to maintain. For example, medical electronic devices use various polymeric materials. They can be used as substrates, attachments or for protection and interconnections. In this area of electronic devices the use of adhesives has grown a lot. The materials that they are made of are also various, and therefore, they need strong, durable adhesives. The epoxies are also used in this are. They are mainly used in ultrasound pacemakers and catheters. All these use a medical adhesive.
The applications are numerous. Blood and drug delivery sets also use medical adhesives. It is about acrylic and PVC components combined with acrylic adhesive. Medical adhesives are also used on needles, syringes, injectors, blood collection sets, hypodermics or lancets. All these usually use acrylic-based adhesives or cyanoacrylate adhesives.
